OAKLAND, Calif. Mission College Prep shot 50 percent from the field and scored nine straight points shortly after Head-Royce tied the game, pulling away for a 68-54 win over the Jayhawks on Tuesday. The loss dropped Head-Royce to 11-6 in the 2025 summer season.
Head-Royce started fast. Tua opened the scoring with a 3-pointer on an assist from Nick, and Nick turned a turnover into a basket for a 5-0 lead, the Jayhawks' largest of the night. Mission College Prep answered by tying the game at 8, then kept going with a 9-0 run that put it ahead 13-8. The visitors stretched the margin to 17-10 at the free throw line.
The Jayhawks worked their way back. Jackson hit a 3-pointer and Nick scored again off a turnover. After a Mission College Prep free throw made it 20-15, Tua hit back-to-back 3-pointers to finish a 6-0 run and give Head-Royce a 21-20 lead. Mission College Prep went back in front, and Tua answered with his fourth 3-pointer for a 24-22 edge. Baskets by Silas and Idan put the Jayhawks ahead 29-28, but Head-Royce did not lead again.
Mission College Prep built a 40-33 lead before Head-Royce put together a 7-0 run. Idan scored on a feed from Tua, Jack and Tua combined to make three free throws, and a basket by Jack tied the game at 40. Mission College Prep answered with two straight baskets. Jack's 3-pointer off a Tua assist cut the deficit to 44-43, and two Jack free throws later made it 48-45. Mission College Prep then scored the next nine points, including a 3-pointer, to go up 57-45. The lead reached 16 at 63-47, and Head-Royce got no closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Jack led Head-Royce with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, five of them on the offensive glass. He made all eight of his free throws and hit 4 of 8 shots from the field. Tua added 15 points, going 4 of 7 from 3-point range, and had a team-high seven assists. Idan scored 11 points, made all three of his free throws and had two steals without a turnover. Nick had four points, four assists and two blocked shots.
Mission College Prep's shooting was the difference. The visitors made 26 of 52 shots from the field, while Head-Royce made 16 of 43 for 37.2 percent and went 6 of 20 from 3-point range. The Jayhawks held an edge at the free throw line, making 16 of 19 to Mission College Prep's 12 of 16, but that did not make up for the shooting gap. Mission College Prep won the rebounding battle 29-25 and outscored Head-Royce 8-0 in second-chance points, even though the Jayhawks grabbed nine offensive rebounds. Turnovers were nearly even: Head-Royce had nine to Mission College Prep's eight, and each team scored four points off turnovers.
The Head-Royce bench scored seven points. Silas had three points and four rebounds, Jackson added three points and two assists, and Lo made a free throw. With the loss, Head-Royce is 11-6 on the summer.
