Casa Roble turned a one-point deficit into an 11-point lead with a 12-0 first-half run and never trailed again, beating Head-Royce 54-40 on Saturday. The Jayhawks shot 29.1 percent from the field and fell to 13-6 this summer.

The opening minutes were close. Nick Taubes scored Head-Royce's first two baskets to tie the game at 2-2 and 4-4, and Alex Jones hit a 3-pointer to tie it at 7-7. Casa Roble went ahead 12-9. Taubes answered with a second-chance basket, and Jones scored off a turnover to give the Jayhawks their first lead at 13-12. After a Casa Roble basket, Taubes scored on another second chance to put Head-Royce ahead 15-14. That 1-point edge was the Jayhawks' biggest lead of the day. All three lead changes and all four ties came in the first half.

Casa Roble took control from there. A free throw tied the game at 15 and started a 12-0 run that ended with a 3-pointer for a 26-15 lead. Sanjay Ernst ended the drought with a basket off a Jones assist, but Casa Roble made three free throws and led 29-17 at halftime.

Head-Royce opened the second half with a 7-0 run. Tucker Peay scored off a pass from Jones, Ernst hit a 3-pointer off a turnover on a feed from Taubes, and Jones scored off another turnover to make it 29-24. Ernst added a 3-pointer, assisted by Loryan Boyette-Tindall, to cut the lead to 31-27, and a Jones free throw made it 33-28. Casa Roble then scored 11 straight points, including a 3-pointer and two baskets off turnovers, to build its largest lead at 44-28. The Jayhawks got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way. Jack Peay made two free throws and Taubes scored to make it 44-32, and a Taubes 3-pointer off a turnover later cut the lead to 51-39. Casa Roble scored its final seven points at the free-throw line.

Taubes led Head-Royce with 13 points on 6-of-20 shooting, along with 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a block, and he did not commit a turnover. Jones, a junior guard, added 10 points, a team-high 3 assists, a steal and a block. Ernst also scored 10 points, shooting 4-of-7 from the field and 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and had 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Tucker Peay and Jack Peay each grabbed 4 rebounds, and Tucker Peay blocked 2 shots. Waylon Miller had 3 rebounds off the bench.

The biggest gaps were in shooting and at the free-throw line. Head-Royce shot 16-of-55 from the field and 4-of-21 from 3-point range, while Casa Roble shot 18-of-38 (47.4 percent). Casa Roble made 15 of 22 free throws, while the Jayhawks went 4-of-6. Head-Royce was called for 15 fouls to Casa Roble's 8. Casa Roble also won the rebounding battle, 30-23. The Jayhawks forced 14 turnovers, committed 10 and outscored Casa Roble 12-4 in points off turnovers. Their bench scored 1 point, a free throw by Azaan.

The loss ended a winning streak and left Head-Royce at 13-6 for the 2026 summer season.
