OAKLAND, Calif. Head-Royce came back from a 16-point deficit to beat Berkeley High 51-46 on Tuesday. Jack scored 26 points, and the Jayhawks made eight more free throws than the visitors. The win lifted Head-Royce to 11-5 in the 2025 summer season and gave the Jayhawks three wins in a row.
Berkeley High opened the game with a 16-0 run that included two 3-pointers. Jack scored the first Head-Royce basket to end the run, and Idan added two free throws, but Berkeley High scored off a turnover to go up 19-4.
The Jayhawks answered with 10 straight points. Jack scored on a jumper and then hit a 3-pointer off a turnover, assisted by Nick. Idan made a free throw, Nick scored off a turnover and Jack did the same to cut the deficit to 19-14. Berkeley High pushed its lead back to 24-17 with a 3-pointer, and Head-Royce followed with an 8-0 run. Jackson hit a 3-pointer off the bench, Sanjay scored a second-chance basket on a pass from Nick, and Jack hit a 3-pointer off a turnover, assisted by Sanjay, to give the Jayhawks their first lead at 25-24.
Berkeley High retook the lead at 26-25 with a second-chance basket. Jack made two free throws, the first to tie the game and the second to put Head-Royce back in front, and then scored again for a 29-26 lead. The visitors pulled within 31-30 at the line, and the Jayhawks scored the next six points: Nick hit a 3-pointer on a pass from Idan, and Idan scored off a turnover and made a free throw for a 37-30 lead. Head-Royce went up by seven again at 39-32 when Nick scored on an assist from Tua. Berkeley High kept coming and cut the lead to 47-46 with a free throw. Nick then made a free throw, Jack made two more and Head-Royce added one more free throw to close out the 51-46 win.
Jack finished with a double-double: 26 points and 11 rebounds. He made 9 of 15 shots from the field, 2 of 6 from 3-point range and 6 of 7 at the line, and he had no turnovers. Idan scored 11 points and made 7 of 8 free throws. Nick had 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Tua had 3 assists, and Sanjay had 2 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Jackson scored all 3 of the Jayhawks' bench points, and Silas had 3 rebounds, two of them offensive.
Head-Royce shot 36 percent (16 of 44) and made 4 of 19 3-pointers. Berkeley High shot 40 percent (18 of 45) and made two more field goals than the Jayhawks. The Jayhawks won at the free throw line, where they made 15 of 17 while Berkeley High made 7 of 10, and they also protected the ball better. Head-Royce had only five turnovers, forced 11 and had seven steals, and it outscored Berkeley High 14-4 in points off turnovers. Berkeley High outrebounded the Jayhawks 31-21 and had an 8-2 edge in second-chance points.
With its third straight win, Head-Royce improved to 11-5.
