OAKLAND, Calif. Head-Royce hit three 3-pointers on its first three scoring trips and never trailed on Saturday, beating Live Oak 52-37 at home. The Jayhawks improved to 4-1 in the 2025 Summer season and extended their winning streak to three games.
Nick set up all three opening 3-pointers. Tua connected first, Idan followed and Jack added the third for a 9-0 lead before Live Oak scored. Live Oak answered with free throws and a pair of baskets and got within 13-9, but Head-Royce pulled away again with a 6-0 run. Jack made a free throw, Nick scored off a turnover, Jack scored on a feed from Sanjay and Nick made a free throw to make it 19-9. Tucker then hit a 3-pointer off another Live Oak turnover to push the lead to 22-11.
Live Oak got within 24-17 on a second-chance basket, but Nick answered with a basket and Idan followed with two more to make it 30-19. Lo scored off a turnover and added a free throw to make it 33-22. After a Live Oak 3-pointer cut the lead to eight, Head-Royce scored six straight points. Jack scored on an assist from Tua, Tucker made two free throws and Tucker put back a miss for a 39-25 lead. Live Oak never got within 11 points after that.
Head-Royce kept adding to the lead. Silas and Jack scored, Nick converted another Live Oak turnover and Jackson finished a three-point play to make it 49-29, a 20-point lead. Tucker added a basket for 51-31. Live Oak scored the final three points of the game on a 3-pointer, but it only cut into the final margin.
Jack led Head-Royce with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting, adding four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Nick had 9 points, a team-high six rebounds and a team-high five assists, along with two steals and a block. Tucker was perfect off the bench, scoring 9 points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 at the line. Idan scored 7 points and grabbed five rebounds, and Tua had four assists with his 3-pointer.
Head-Royce's ball movement and ball security made the difference. The Jayhawks had 14 assists to Live Oak's five and turned the ball over just five times while forcing 12 turnovers, leading to a 9-0 edge in points off turnovers. Head-Royce had seven steals, with Nick and Lo each recording two. The Jayhawks shot 36.5 percent from the field (19 of 52), while Live Oak shot 35.1 percent (13 of 37). Head-Royce also outrebounded Live Oak 32-24, including 11-5 on the offensive glass, and made 10 of 12 free throws. The bench scored 20 points, and 10 Jayhawks scored.
Head-Royce is now 4-1 and has won three straight.
