OAKLAND, Calif. Head-Royce never trailed and three players scored 12 points apiece as the Jayhawks beat International 57-37 on Friday, June 6. The Jayhawks shot 48.9 percent from the field and won their second straight game to improve to 3-1 in the 2025 summer season.
Nick scored the first basket of the game, and International answered for the only tie of the night at 2-2. Head-Royce then took control. Nick and Jack hit back-to-back 3-pointers, both set up by Sam, for a 6-0 run and an 8-2 lead. After International scored on a second-chance basket to make it 8-4, the Jayhawks ran off eight straight points. Idan scored on a feed from Tua, Jack made two free throws and added a second-chance basket, and Idan finished another Tua assist for a 16-4 advantage.
The lead kept growing. Tua hit a 3-pointer off a turnover for a 21-6 edge, and Idan followed with a 3-pointer from Nick, a second-chance basket and a free throw to make it 27-10. With the score 27-12, Head-Royce scored seven unanswered points. Jackson scored on a pass from Sam, and Sam added two baskets and a free throw to push the margin to 34-12, the largest lead of the game at 22 points.
International responded with a 10-0 run that cut the deficit to 34-22. The Jayhawks answered right away: Idan scored on an assist from Nick, Jack made a free throw and Nick hit a 3-pointer from Tua to restore a 40-22 lead. International got no closer than 14 points the rest of the way. Sanjay scored twice late, including a second-chance basket, Jack scored on a feed from Nick, and Silas closed the scoring with a 3-pointer set up by Idan.
Jack had one of the best all-around games on the team, scoring 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting with nine rebounds, three of them offensive. Nick also scored 12, going 2-for-3 from 3-point range, and added three assists and three blocks. Idan was the most efficient scorer, making 5 of 6 shots for his 12 points. Tua ran the offense with seven points, five assists and two steals, and Sam went 2-for-2 from the field for five points with four rebounds and three assists.
The team numbers showed the gap between the two teams. Head-Royce had 13 assists to International's three and outrebounded the visitors 33-21. The Jayhawks also blocked six shots and made 7 of 8 free throws. International shot 31.3 percent (15-of-48) and went 2-for-15 from 3-point range. Head-Royce committed 14 turnovers, but International did not score a point off them. The Head-Royce bench added nine points, led by Sanjay's four on 2-of-2 shooting.
With its second straight win, Head-Royce improved to 3-1 this summer.
