OAKLAND, Calif. Head-Royce scored the game's last six points to beat Oakland Tech 48-45 on Friday night and open the 2025 summer season at 1-0. The Jayhawks outscored the Bulldogs 13-8 at the free throw line, and Jack made 8 of 9 attempts on his way to a team-high 14 points.
Oakland Tech hit a 3-pointer on the first possession and led 7-4 early. Idan answered with a 3-pointer, assisted by Nick, to tie the game at 7, and the teams were level again at 9. Head-Royce then scored 10 straight points. Jack scored inside off a pass from Nick, Idan made two free throws, Sanjay hit a 3-pointer and Tucker followed with one of his own, assisted by Sam. That run put Head-Royce ahead 19-9, its biggest lead of the night.
Oakland Tech came right back. The Bulldogs scored six in a row to cut the lead to 19-15, and after a Jack putback made it 21-15, they scored seven straight to go ahead 22-21. Tua gave the lead back to Head-Royce with a basket, but Oakland Tech answered with six unanswered points to lead 28-23, its largest margin. The Jayhawks kept it close with free throws from Jack and Idan. Sam scored off a Tua assist, and Nick hit a 3-pointer from Sanjay that tied the game at 32.
Oakland Tech went back up 37-32, but Nick scored twice in a row, the second basket coming off a turnover, to cut the gap to 37-36. After an Oakland Tech 3-pointer, Sanjay hit a second-chance 3-pointer set up by Silas. Tucker then scored inside and made a free throw to put Head-Royce up 42-40. The Bulldogs answered with a second-chance 3-pointer and two free throws to lead 45-42. Idan scored on a pass from Jack to make it 45-44, Jack made two free throws to put Head-Royce ahead 46-45, and Tucker scored off a Nick assist to finish the scoring at 48-45. The game had five lead changes and four ties.
Jack scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, five of them offensive. Tucker came off the bench for eight points, a team-high nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Idan scored nine points, made all four of his free throws and had two steals. Nick added seven points and a team-high three assists, and Sanjay scored six points on 2-of-2 shooting from 3-point range. Sam pulled down six rebounds.
Neither team shot well. Head-Royce made 15 of 53 shots (28.3 percent), and Oakland Tech made 17 of 54 (31.5 percent). The Bulldogs struggled from beyond the arc, going 3 of 23, while the Jayhawks made 5 of 19. Head-Royce outrebounded Oakland Tech 34-31, including an 11-8 edge on the offensive glass, and got 14 points from its bench. Oakland Tech committed 17 fouls, which sent Head-Royce to the line 16 times. The Bulldogs scored 6 points off turnovers and the Jayhawks scored 2.
Head-Royce is 1-0 on the summer season and has won one straight.
