The senior added 13 rebounds, and Melina M. had seven steals as Head-Royce won its fifth straight game.

OAKLAND, Calif. Morgan R. scored 33 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and Head-Royce beat Durham 45-38 on Thursday, March 6. The Jayhawks improved to 22-4 and stretched their winning streak to five games. Morgan R. scored 33 of the team's 45 points, and a Head-Royce defense that forced 17 turnovers held Durham to 29 percent shooting.

Neither team pulled away in the first half. The game had eight lead changes and seven ties, and Morgan R. scored the first 20 Head-Royce points by herself. She opened the scoring with a basket off a turnover, answered a Durham 5-3 lead with a three-pointer off another turnover and later hit a second three that put the Jayhawks up 18-16. Durham's biggest lead came at 21-20, after a three-pointer by A. B.

Abigail K. then took over. She made two free throws to put Head-Royce back in front, and after Durham tied the game at 22, she scored on an assist from Leila H. to make it 24-22. After Durham tied it again at 24, the Jayhawks went on a 6-0 run: Melina M. scored on a second-chance basket set up by Abigail K., Abigail K. scored on a pass from Kalia K. and Morgan R. added a putback for a 30-24 lead. L. P. scored on a second-chance basket for Durham, and Head-Royce led 30-26 at halftime.

Head-Royce controlled the second half. Abigail K. scored on a feed from Melina M., and Morgan R. made two free throws for a 34-27 lead. Later, Morgan R. scored on back-to-back assists from Leila H. and made a free throw, and the Jayhawks led 39-29, their biggest lead of the game. Durham answered with two three-pointers from K. F. and a team basket to cut the deficit to 41-37. Morgan R. followed with a second-chance basket on an assist from Emmy M., and Emmy M. made two free throws in the closing sequence to set the final score.

Morgan R. made 13 of 19 shots from the field, including 2 of 3 from three-point range, and went 5 of 9 at the line. She had five offensive rebounds, two steals and a block. Melina M. had two points, 10 rebounds, seven steals and two assists. Abigail K. scored eight points on 3-of-8 shooting, made both of her free throws and had two assists. Leila H. led the team with four assists, and Kalia K. had four rebounds off the bench.

Head-Royce shot 37 percent (17 of 46) and outrebounded Durham 40-32, with 16 offensive rebounds. The Jayhawks had 12 steals and turned Durham's 17 turnovers into five points. Head-Royce made 9 of 20 free throws, while Durham made 5 of 20 from three-point range. L. P. led Durham with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting, and K. F. added nine points on three three-pointers. K. R. had five points and seven rebounds, and P. S. had seven rebounds and two blocks.
