Morgan R. had 18 points and 23 rebounds, and Head-Royce beat Las Lomas 41-35 on Saturday, Feb. 22, by controlling the glass 54-37. The win moved the Jayhawks to 18-4.

Head-Royce scored the first 13 points of the game. Leila H. opened the scoring with a second-chance 3-pointer on an assist from Morgan R., and Elena K. added a 3-pointer off a turnover and a two. A Morgan R. free throw made it 13-0. Las Lomas answered with a 7-0 run, then outscored the Jayhawks 13-4 over the rest of the stretch and took its only lead at 20-19 on a K. H. 3-pointer off a turnover. Morgan R. scored on the next possession to put Head-Royce back in front, and the Jayhawks took a 21-20 lead into halftime.

Head-Royce outscored Las Lomas 20-15 in the third quarter. Morgan R. scored off a turnover on a feed from Abigail K., and after Las Lomas cut the deficit to 23-22, Elena K. hit a 3-pointer off a turnover to make it 27-22. Leading 27-23, the Jayhawks took control with a 9-0 run. Morgan R. scored twice, Elena K. hit her third 3-pointer on an assist from Leila H., and Melina M. finished a pass from Abigail K. to make it 36-23, which matched Head-Royce's largest lead of the game.

After Kalia K. scored off the bench to make it 38-25, Las Lomas ran off eight straight points. K. H. hit a 3-pointer and M. H. scored the next five to cut the lead to 38-33. Morgan R. answered with a basket on an assist from Melina M., K. H. scored for Las Lomas, and Elena K. made a free throw to set the final margin.

Morgan R. shot 8-of-17 from the field and grabbed six offensive rebounds. She also had five assists, three blocks and a steal. Elena K. added 12 points, going 3-of-10 from 3-point range, and pulled down four rebounds. Melina M. had six steals and eight rebounds, five of them offensive. Off the bench, Kalia K. had two points and six rebounds, and Ella S. had two points and four rebounds.

Head-Royce shot 29.8 percent (17-of-57) and committed 22 turnovers, but its 21 offensive rebounds led to an 11-5 edge in second-chance points. The Jayhawks had 14 steals and forced 17 turnovers. They held Las Lomas to 22.4 percent shooting (13-of-58), including 4-of-24 from 3-point range. Las Lomas scored 12 points off turnovers to Head-Royce's eight. K. H. led Las Lomas with 13 points on 5-of-20 shooting. M. H. had 10 points and 11 rebounds, and A. S. added 10 points and three assists.
