Cornerstone Christian JV shot 50 percent from the field and used four big scoring runs to pull away from the Head-Royce boys junior varsity basketball team, 58-32, on Tuesday. Head-Royce shot 25 percent, fell to 1-2 on the season and has lost two games in a row.

The Jayhawks scored the game's first 4 points. Owen scored first on a pass from Lil O, and Kian added a basket for a 4-0 lead. Cornerstone Christian answered with a 10-0 run and went ahead for good at 5-4, the only lead change of the game. Jackson scored off a turnover to make it 10-6. Cornerstone Christian then scored eight straight points, including back-to-back 3-pointers, to lead 18-6. Lil O made a free throw, and Kian hit a 3-pointer on a pass from Jackson to cut the lead to 18-10. Kian scored again on an assist from Adagio to make it 20-12, but Cornerstone Christian scored the last two baskets of the half and led 24-12 at halftime.

Kian scored the first basket of the second half off a turnover. Cornerstone Christian answered with an 8-0 run for a 32-14 lead. A second-chance 3-pointer and two free throws made it 37-16, and a 7-0 run turned a 40-20 game into 47-20. The lead reached its largest point, 29, at 53-24. Head-Royce's bench then sparked a late push. Clayton scored five straight points, first a basket and then a 3-pointer off a turnover on a pass from Adagio, to make it 53-29. Kian hit a 3-pointer on a pass from Clayton for the Jayhawks' last points, and Cornerstone Christian scored the game's final basket.

Kian led Head-Royce with 14 points on 6-of-17 shooting, including 2 of 9 from 3-point range, and added 2 steals. Clayton scored 7 points off the bench on 3-of-5 shooting and had an assist. Owen finished with 4 points, 6 rebounds and a team-high 2 blocks. Adagio grabbed 6 rebounds, 5 of them on the offensive glass, and had a team-high 3 assists and 2 steals. Jackson had a team-high 4 steals and added 2 assists.

The shooting numbers decided the game. Head-Royce made 14 of 56 shots from the field, 3 of 27 from 3-point range and 1 of 5 free throws. Cornerstone Christian made 23 of 46 from the field (50 percent), 6 of 14 from beyond the arc and 6 of 8 at the line. The Jayhawks forced 20 turnovers and had 13 steals, but they also turned the ball over 20 times and scored only 7 points off turnovers.

Head-Royce outrebounded Cornerstone Christian 23-22 and grabbed 12 offensive rebounds, but it scored only 2 second-chance points. Cornerstone Christian scored 5. The Jayhawks got 9 points from their bench, all from Clayton and Makaio.

Head-Royce is now 1-2 on the season.
