Morgan R. had 33 points and 20 rebounds as Head-Royce beat Arroyo 52-44 on Friday. The Jayhawks (6-2) won their third straight game. They committed 31 turnovers but made up for it by outrebounding Arroyo 60-30.

Arroyo's only lead came when Kai made a free throw to open the scoring. Morgan R. answered with a free throw and a second-chance basket, and Kai tied it at 3. Head-Royce then scored 13 straight points. Abigail K. started the run with a basket, and Elena K. and Morgan R. followed with back-to-back 3-pointers. Kalia K. finished a turnover with a basket for a 16-3 lead. After an Arroyo putback, Morgan R. made two more 3-pointers to make it 22-5. That 17-point lead was Head-Royce's largest of the game.

Arroyo came back. Morgan R.'s basket gave the Jayhawks a 26-10 lead, and then Arroyo scored the last 13 points of the half. Kai scored eight of those points, and Arroyo turned four Head-Royce turnovers into baskets during the run. Ana's 3-pointer made it 26-23 at halftime. Soph scored the first basket of the second half, which ended a 15-0 run and cut the lead to 26-25.

Morgan R. ended the scoring drought with a basket, and Head-Royce pulled back ahead. Melina M. scored on an assist from Morgan R., and Ella S. added two straight baskets for a 35-26 lead. Arroyo then scored seven in a row, and two free throws by MJ later made it 36-35. Morgan R. answered with two baskets. Arroyo got within 40-39 on a basket and a free throw by Kai, but the Jayhawks scored the next seven points. Morgan R. scored on an assist from Elena K. and made three free throws, and Ella S. added a free throw. After Kai cut the lead to 46-42, Morgan R. scored on a second-chance basket and made two free throws, and Melina M. made two free throws to push the lead to 52-42.

Morgan R. made 11 of 24 shots, 3 of 10 from 3-point range and 8 of 12 free throws. She had seven offensive rebounds, four steals, four blocks and two assists, and she scored 16 of Head-Royce's 26 second-half points. Ella S. had six points, nine rebounds and a team-high four assists off the bench. Melina M. added four points and nine rebounds, and Elena K. had seven rebounds and three assists.

Neither team shot well. Head-Royce made 29.5 percent of its shots (18 of 61), and Arroyo made 30.9 percent (17 of 55). The Jayhawks had 27 offensive rebounds and outscored Arroyo 9-8 on second-chance points. They also made 12 of 20 free throws, while Arroyo made 8 of 19, and they blocked five shots to Arroyo's one. Arroyo had 19 steals, including seven by MJ and six by Kai, and outscored Head-Royce 14-6 in points off turnovers. Kai led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting.
