OAKLAND, Calif. Head-Royce forced 28 turnovers and got 24 points from Morgan R. in a 58-34 girls basketball win over Albany on Friday, Dec. 13, at home. The Jayhawks (5-2) never trailed and have now won two games in a row.

Morgan R. scored the first six points of the game. The first of those baskets was a second-chance score off an assist from Emmy M. After D.L. scored Albany's first basket, Head-Royce answered with 13 straight points. Morgan R. added two more second-chance baskets, Ella S. scored three points off the bench, and Leila H. and Melina M. each scored. Morgan R. ended the run with a basket off a turnover, assisted by Leila H., for a 19-2 lead.

Albany got back-to-back baskets from E. C., but Melina M. and Morgan R. answered with second-chance scores. Head-Royce led 27-10 at halftime, and Morgan R. had 16 of the Jayhawks' 27 first-half points.

Head-Royce took control with a 14-0 run to open the second half. Leila H. hit a 3-pointer on an assist from Elena K. Elena K. followed with a 3-pointer off a turnover, assisted by Morgan R. Leila H. then hit two more 3-pointers, one set up by Morgan R., and scored off another turnover to make it 41-10. She scored 11 of the 14 points in the run. Kalia K. scored Head-Royce's last two baskets, the second on a feed from Leila H., which made it 58-27, the Jayhawks' largest lead at 31 points. Albany closed the game with a 7-0 run, and C.L. scored four of those points.

Morgan R. finished with 24 points on 12-of-18 shooting. She added eight rebounds (four offensive), four steals, three assists and a block. Leila H. scored 16 points, making four of her seven 3-point attempts, and added five assists and five steals. Melina M. scored six points with three steals off the bench, Kalia K. added six points, and Emmy M. had four steals.

The defense drove the result. Head-Royce totaled 18 steals and outscored Albany 16-6 in points off turnovers. The Jayhawks shot 44.1 percent from the field (26-of-59), while Albany shot 33.3 percent and went 0-for-5 from 3-point range. Head-Royce grabbed 14 offensive rebounds and turned them into 12 second-chance points. The bench added nine points. Head-Royce committed 21 turnovers of its own. C.L. led Albany with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and E. C. added eight points.
