OAKLAND, Calif. Head-Royce beat Skyline 58-37 on Monday night and improved to 7-4. The Jayhawks outrebounded the visitors 51-11 and held them to 34 percent shooting.

Skyline led early. Morgan R. scored the game's first two baskets, the second after a turnover, but Skyline answered with six straight points for a 6-4 lead. Head-Royce went back in front at 8-6 on a free throw from Hailey H., a basket from Leila H. and a free throw from Morgan R. Skyline then scored twice to lead 10-8, its biggest lead of the night.

Head-Royce took over from there with a 14-0 run. Leila H. hit a 3-pointer to retake the lead, Morgan R. scored three straight baskets, and Leila H. added a 3-pointer off a turnover and a two for a 22-10 lead. Tara P. and Morgan R. scored late in the first quarter, and Head-Royce led 28-17 after one.

Skyline cut the gap to 29-21 early in the second quarter. The Jayhawks answered with a 7-0 run, keyed by a free throw, two baskets and a second-chance basket from Hailey H. and a basket from Morgan R., to lead 36-21. Melina M. scored twice off the bench to make it 42-23, and Head-Royce led 42-28 at halftime. The score was still 42-28 after three quarters. In the fourth, the Jayhawks pulled away with a 9-0 run: Hailey H. scored inside, Elena K. made two free throws and a 3-pointer, and Melina M. added a basket for a 51-28 lead. Hailey H. and Morgan R. combined for a 7-0 run that made it 58-30, Head-Royce's largest lead at 28, before Skyline scored the game's last seven points.

Morgan R. led Head-Royce with 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting and 19 rebounds, eight of them offensive. She also had four steals, two blocks and two assists. Hailey H. added 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting, nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks. Leila H. scored 10 points, making 2 of 3 from 3-point range, and added six assists and seven rebounds. Melina M. had seven points and eight rebounds off the bench, and Elena K. scored five points. Ella S. did not score but had six rebounds and three steals.

Head-Royce shot 43 percent (22 of 51) from the field and grabbed 24 offensive rebounds. The Jayhawks had 16 assists and 12 steals, and the bench scored nine points. Their one weak spot was ball security: Head-Royce turned it over 25 times, and Skyline scored 16 points off those turnovers. Skyline made 2 of 21 from 3-point range and 1 of 4 at the free-throw line. Skyline's No. 22 led the visitors with 11 points and six rebounds.

The win lifted Head-Royce to 7-4 on the season.
