Head-Royce erased a 14-point deficit and beat College Prep 36-31 on Saturday, Dec. 6, for its first win of the 2025-26 season. A 14-0 run turned a 27-19 deficit into a 33-27 lead, and the Jayhawks improved to 1-5.

College Prep scored the first five points. After an Abigail Kim basket off an Ella Smith assist made it 5-2, the hosts ran off 10 straight points, four of them at the free throw line, to lead 15-2. Kim scored off a turnover, but College Prep pushed the margin to 18-4, its largest of the game.

The Jayhawks answered with a 6-0 run. Missgana B. scored off a turnover on a feed from Osa Enabulele and added another basket on a Smith assist, and Smith scored on a putback to make it 18-10. After two College Prep free throws, Head-Royce put together a 7-0 run: Smith scored on another putback and again off a turnover, and Kim hit a 3-pointer from Enabulele to cut the gap to 20-17. College Prep answered with a 3-pointer, and a Smith basket off a Kim assist was followed by four straight College Prep free throws that made it 27-19.

That was the last lead College Prep would have. Bella Spencer scored twice in a row, the second on a putback set up by Smith, and Smith converted a Kim assist to make it 27-25. Kim tied the game at 27 on a feed from Kara Waldrop, and Spencer gave Head-Royce its first lead with a second-chance basket. Smith scored the next four points, both on assists from Enabulele, the first off a turnover, to finish the 14-0 run at 33-27. Kim added a 3-pointer from Enabulele for a 36-28 lead, the Jayhawks' largest. College Prep closed with a free throw and a basket off a turnover.

Smith posted a double-double with 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and 14 rebounds, seven of them offensive, plus three assists, two steals and two blocks. Kim added 12 points, going 2-for-3 from 3-point range, with four steals and three assists. Spencer scored six points on 3-of-7 shooting, all during the decisive run. Enabulele had five assists, four steals and five rebounds, and Waldrop grabbed seven rebounds. Missgana B. scored all four of Head-Royce's bench points.

The Jayhawks won with defense and rebounding. College Prep shot 8-of-52 (15.4 percent) from the field and made only three field goals after the first 18 points, relying on 13-of-24 free throw shooting. Head-Royce shot 37 percent (17-of-46), outrebounded College Prep 46-30 and held edges of 10-4 in points off turnovers and 8-2 in second-chance points. The Jayhawks forced 19 turnovers with 12 steals but committed 35 of their own. College Prep's No. 3 matched Smith for the game high with 14 points and added six steals.

Head-Royce is now 1-5 and has its first winning streak of the season.
