OAKLAND, Calif. Head-Royce girls basketball lost 30-18 to Terra Linda on Friday, Dec. 5, at home. Terra Linda closed the game with a 10-0 run, and the Jayhawks turned the ball over 32 times. The loss dropped Head-Royce to 0-5 on the 2025-26 season, its fifth straight defeat.
Ella Smith opened the scoring with a basket for a 2-0 Head-Royce lead. Terra Linda answered with a 6-0 run that began with a 3-pointer. Free throws from Osa Enabulele and Abigail Kim cut the deficit to 6-4, but Terra Linda made a free throw and scored inside to go up 9-4. Kim then scored three straight baskets in a 6-0 Head-Royce run. The first came off a turnover and the second came on an assist from Kai Vasquez, and the third put the Jayhawks ahead 10-9.
The lead changed hands five times, and all five changes came in the first half of the game. Terra Linda went back in front 11-10 on a basket off a turnover. Kim answered to make it 12-11, but Terra Linda scored the next five points to lead 16-12. Smith scored on a feed from Kim, and Geneva Walker followed with a second-chance basket that tied the game at 16, the only tie of the night.
Terra Linda scored the next two baskets, both off Head-Royce turnovers, to lead 20-16. Kim cut the margin to 20-18 with a basket assisted by Emmy Mitchell, but Head-Royce did not score again. Terra Linda closed with five straight baskets, including a second-chance score and a final basket off a turnover, to build its largest lead of the game at 30-18.
Kim led Head-Royce with 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting and scored five of the team's eight field goals. She also had four steals and five rebounds. Smith pulled down 21 rebounds, seven of them offensive, and added four points and four steals. Walker had two points, two steals and a block, Enabulele grabbed six rebounds and Mitchell blocked two shots.
The Jayhawks outrebounded Terra Linda 46-37, had 12 steals and shot 22.9 percent from the field (8 of 35), better than Terra Linda's 19.1 percent (13 of 68). Ball security and free throws decided the game. Head-Royce committed 32 turnovers to Terra Linda's 17, and Terra Linda outscored the Jayhawks 10-2 in points off turnovers. Head-Royce made 2 of 18 free throws, and its bench did not score. Terra Linda's No. 12 had 11 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals, and No. 32 added six points and seven steals.
Head-Royce is 0-5 on the season.
