OAKLAND, Calif. Head-Royce fell to Bay School 57-19 on Thursday night at home. Bay School forced 29 turnovers and scored 22 points off them, and the Jayhawks dropped to 0-4, their fourth straight loss.
Bay School scored the game's first six points. A basket off a turnover, two free throws and a second-chance basket made it 6-0. Freshman Osa Enabulele got Head-Royce on the board with a putback, and Ella Smith added a free throw to cut the deficit to 6-3. Bay School answered with a 12-0 run, three of those baskets coming off turnovers or offensive rebounds, to go up 18-3. Enabulele scored on another second-chance basket, but a 10-0 run pushed the lead to 28-5.
The Jayhawks had their best stretch of the night after that. Smith hit a free throw, and Abigail Kim scored inside. Geneva Walker then finished a feed from Smith, and Emmy Mitchell converted a second-chance basket. Head-Royce outscored Bay School 7-2 over that span to make it 32-12. Bay School hit a 3-pointer and a basket to go up 37-12, and the Jayhawks came back with five straight points. Smith scored on an assist from Mitchell, and Kim hit a 3-pointer off a turnover, also set up by Mitchell, to make it 37-17.
Bay School put the game away from there with a 16-0 run that pushed the lead to 53-17. Five of the eight baskets in that run came off Head-Royce turnovers. Missgana B. ended the drought with a layup off a turnover, assisted by Loire Williams, and Bay School closed with two more baskets off turnovers. Head-Royce never led and never tied the game, and the final 38-point margin was Bay School's largest of the night.
Kim led Head-Royce with 5 points and hit the team's only 3-pointer, adding four rebounds and a steal. Smith scored 4 points, went 2 of 4 from the free throw line and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Enabulele also finished with 4 points, and all five of her rebounds came on the offensive glass. She added two steals. Mitchell had 2 points, five rebounds, a team-high two assists and both of the Jayhawks' blocked shots.
Turnovers and shooting decided the game. Head-Royce committed 29 turnovers to Bay School's 16 and scored 5 points off turnovers to Bay School's 22. The Jayhawks shot 8 of 47 (17 percent) from the field and 2 of 8 at the line, while Bay School made 26 of 59 shots (44 percent). Bay School also finished with 11 steals and seven blocks. The rebounding was close, with Bay School holding a 38-35 edge and each team grabbing 14 offensive rebounds. Head-Royce turned its offensive rebounds into 6 second-chance points, while Bay School scored 10. The Jayhawks got 2 points from their bench.
Head-Royce is now 0-4 on the 2025-26 season.
