Andre Iguodala II scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Head-Royce used a late 9-0 run to take its first lead of the game in a 59-57 boys basketball win over Piedmont on Wednesday. The Jayhawks have won five straight and improved to 9-2 this summer.

Piedmont scored the first four points. After a Micah Riebel putback got Head-Royce on the board, Piedmont scored eight straight to lead 12-2, its largest lead of the game. Riebel answered with two free throws and Iguodala scored on a putback, but Piedmont kept its lead with a string of 3-pointers, and back-to-back threes made it 29-19. Head-Royce answered with seven unanswered points. Bryce Clepper made two free throws, and Iguodala scored the next five, three of them from the line, to cut the deficit to 29-26.

Iguodala hit a 3-pointer off a Clepper assist to pull the Jayhawks within 38-36, but Piedmont answered with a 7-0 run and led 45-36. Head-Royce cut into the lead again. Micah Nyamuzuwe hit a 3-pointer, Riebel made two free throws, and baskets by Nick Taubes, off a turnover, and Riebel made it 49-47.

A Piedmont 3-pointer made it 52-47, and then Head-Royce took over. Iguodala scored inside on a feed from Clepper, and Riebel scored and then made a free throw to tie it at 52, the game's only tie. Iguodala followed with a 3-pointer off a Riebel assist for a 55-52 lead, and another Riebel free throw finished the 9-0 run at 56-52. Piedmont answered with a basket. After two Iguodala free throws, Piedmont hit a 3-pointer to make it 58-57. Iguodala went back to the line on the next trip and sealed the win.

Iguodala shot 9 of 20 from the field, made 5 of 14 from 3-point range and went 7 of 8 at the line, adding three steals and three blocks. Riebel finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists and made 6 of 10 free throws. Sophomore Jack Peay did not score but pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds, four on the offensive end. Nyamuzuwe added five points and two assists, Clepper had four points and three assists, and Taubes and Lamarr Covington combined for six points off the bench.

Head-Royce shot 34.6 percent (18 of 52), while Piedmont shot 42.3 percent and made eight 3-pointers. The Jayhawks made up the difference on the boards and at the line. They outrebounded Piedmont 42-23, had 14 offensive rebounds to Piedmont's three and outscored Piedmont 7-3 on second-chance points. Head-Royce made 17 of 24 free throws, while Piedmont went 5 of 8 and was called for 21 fouls to the Jayhawks' 14. That was enough to overcome eight turnovers, compared with two for Piedmont.

Head-Royce has won five games in a row and is 9-2.
