OAKLAND, Calif. Nas Khan hit a 3-pointer off a pass from Owen Sunwoo to break a 42-42 tie with the game's final points, and Head-Royce held on to beat Archie Williams 45-42 on Friday, June 12. The win moved the Jayhawks to 6-2 in the 2026 summer season.
Archie Williams made two free throws to open the scoring, and the teams were tied twice in the early going. Trailing 4-3, Head-Royce scored six straight points to go up 9-4. Jack Peay scored off a turnover, Nick Taubes scored on an assist from Tucker Peay, and Tucker Peay made two free throws. Waylon Miller added a second-chance basket and two free throws for a 13-6 lead, and Sunwoo's 3-pointer made it 17-10. Tucker Peay closed the first half by scoring off a turnover on a feed from Taubes, which sent the Jayhawks to the break ahead 23-14.
Archie Williams came out of halftime with a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 23-19. Jack Peay answered with a 3-pointer from Loryan Boyette-Tindall to make it 26-19. The visitors then scored eight straight points, six of them on free throws, and went ahead 27-26. Head-Royce took the lead back for good on a Tucker Peay basket from Taubes, which started a 12-0 run. Jack Peay scored off a turnover, Sanjay Ernst scored inside, Tucker Peay made two free throws and the Jayhawks added four more from the line to lead 38-27, their largest lead of the night.
Archie Williams answered with a second-chance basket and four free throws to pull within 38-33. Miller kept the Jayhawks in front with a basket on an assist from Taubes and two free throws for a 42-35 lead. The visitors then scored seven straight points on two free throws and two baskets off turnovers, the last a 3-pointer, to tie the game at 42. Khan, who took only one shot all night, made it count with the winning 3-pointer.
Jack Peay and Tucker Peay each scored 10 points to lead Head-Royce. Jack Peay made 4 of 6 shots, including his only 3-point try, and added four rebounds and a steal. Tucker Peay made all four of his free throws and had four rebounds and four assists. Miller scored 8 points off the bench, making both of his shots and all four of his free throws. Taubes had 4 points and four assists. Boyette-Tindall did not score but had five steals, a block and an assist, and Sunwoo, a junior guard, added 3 points and two assists.
Head-Royce made 14 of 25 shots (56 percent) and all 14 of its free throws. Archie Williams shot 41.7 percent (10 of 24) and scored 20 points at the line on 20-of-21 shooting. The Jayhawks outrebounded the visitors 15-6, got 14 points from their bench and forced nine turnovers with seven steals. They also had a 6-5 edge in points off turnovers.
Head-Royce is now 6-2 and has won one straight.
