OAKLAND, Calif. Head-Royce fell to Bentley, 66-50, on Wednesday night, and the Jayhawks dropped to 8-8 on the 2025-26 season. Bentley scored 10 straight points twice after the Jayhawks had built an early lead and took over the game from there, while outrebounding Head-Royce 42-28.
Bentley scored the game's first five points and led 14-4 early. Head-Royce answered with eight straight points. Loryan Boyette-Tindall scored on a layup from a Nick Taubes assist, then added a second-chance basket, and Ezra Goldfarb and Jack Peay also scored to cut the deficit to 14-12. After a Bentley free throw, the Jayhawks scored nine in a row. Goldfarb scored five of them, including a basket off a turnover that gave Head-Royce its first lead at 17-15. Boyette-Tindall capped the run with a 3-pointer from Idan Benharush that made it 21-15, the Jayhawks' largest lead of the night.
Bentley scored the next six points to tie it at 21. Benharush put Head-Royce back in front at 23-21, but Bentley then scored 10 straight, two of those baskets coming off turnovers, and led 31-23. Benharush hit a second-chance 3-pointer and Tua Montoya scored off a turnover to pull the Jayhawks within 31-28. Bentley answered with another 10-0 run to go up 41-28 and pushed the margin to 46-29 soon after.
Head-Royce never got closer than 12 the rest of the way. Montoya hit a 3-pointer and scored on a drive to help keep the Jayhawks within striking distance, and Taubes scored twice to make it 58-46. Bentley then scored six straight, mostly at the free throw line, to go up 64-46, its largest lead, before the teams traded free throws and a late Sanjay Ernst putback set the final margin.
Benharush and Boyette-Tindall shared the team lead with 11 points each. Benharush added a team-high seven rebounds and two assists. Boyette-Tindall came off the bench to shoot 5 of 11 from the floor and led all Head-Royce players with five steals, along with two assists and a block. Montoya finished with eight points and four assists, and Goldfarb added seven points on 3-of-7 shooting in reserve minutes. Taubes contributed five points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Ernst grabbed six rebounds, three of them offensive.
The Head-Royce bench combined for 21 points, but the Jayhawks shot 19 of 66 (28.8 percent) from the floor and 3 of 20 from 3-point range. Bentley shot 26 of 59 (44.1 percent). Head-Royce forced 12 turnovers and made 10 steals, but turned those into only four points, while Bentley scored 10 points off 15 Jayhawks turnovers. Bentley also went 11 of 17 at the free throw line, compared with 9 of 13 for Head-Royce, which was called for 20 fouls.
Head-Royce, now 8-8, returns to action at home on Thursday, Jan. 29, against St. Joseph Notre Dame.
